TALMON MILITARY BATTERY

PALAU

The Talmone military battery, in the area of Palau, is a fortress which has been open to the public for some years. It consists of several military defence structures near the sea and belongs to a series of fortresses which were built on Sardinia’s northern coast and in the archipelago of La Maddalena. Dedicated to Maurizio Talmone, lieutenant junior grade, it was completely abandoned for half a century until 2002, when it was rebuilt and enhanced by FAI – the National Trust of Italy – and made accessible to the public in order to tell the story of military fortifications in past centuries.

A spectacular hidden corner in the extreme north of Sardinia conceals a former military site.
