WOODWORKING AND FILIGREE WORK

Woodworking was employed to handcraft sober furniture and accessories in the typical style of the stazzi – the traditional homes of shepherds and farmers in Gallura – as well as everyday items. Wood was mainly left natural, although decorations were sometimes painted with colours obtained from plants. Traditional craftsmanship has been preserved in the art of intaglio carving employed for Buddusò chests. Contrarily to the modest furniture of Gallura’s homes, chests secured families’ richness and were therefore exquisitely decorated with geometrical or natural motifs.

Woodworking and filigree work are traditional practices in Gallura and result in astounding items,
perfect as souvenirs.
