FAUNA

Gallura’s territory is characterised by a mostly rocky terrestrial environment which hosts typical animal species. These can often be observed in protected areas: as a matter of fact, Sardinia provides a prime example of conservation efforts to safeguard the whole ecosystem. Among mammals, you can admire wild boars – locally known as ‘porcavru’ and feared by farmers and shepherds due to the damage they can cause to crops and livestock – as well as foxes, martens, and weasels.
Birdwatching enthusiasts can also appreciate several bird species, including hawks, thrushes, ravens, and Sardinian partridges: the last stand out for their characteristic mimetic plumage, which enables them to adapt to the environment. Finally, fish species, reptiles, and amphibians are well-represented too.

Similarly to the flora, the fauna is diversified and extremely representative of the territory.
