It is an appealing town famous for cork and granite.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Calangianus is well-known for cork manufacturing, which made it one of the richest towns of Sardinia: in 1979, it ranked as one of the one hundred most industrialised municipalities in Italy. The old town is a crisscross of alleys overlooked by bare granite buildings. The town is extremely old, as it already existed in the Middle Ages. Starting in the 19th century, a wealthy local entrepreneur launched cork extraction, harvesting, and manufacturing to make stoppers and several products for the building industry. This activity is still the town\u2019s core business with a significant development at the industrial level: it is no coincidence that Calangianus has been honoured with the title of \u2018Italian capital of cork\u2019.<\/p>\n

Many events are held to celebrate traditions and local products. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>[vc_empty_space][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Each year, events and festivals that take place mainly in summer attract Italian and foreign tourists, who take a break from the nearby beaches to taste the delights of Sardinia: the most famous is the cattle festival. There are many religious and traditional celebrations, too, which take place along the alleys and liven the days of tourists and residents up. You can enjoy nature all around Calangianus, with many itineraries and trails perfect for sports enthusiasts and outdoor adventures.<\/p>\n
