Among the most majestic towers built in Sardinia<\/strong> during the Spanish era, the tower of Longonsardo<\/strong> played a significant role in the defence against pirate raids and trade control. The shape of this 11-metre-high granite building is that of a truncated cone at the base, while the upper section is cylindrical. The access is located at 6 metres from the ground and leads to a bomb shelter, the so-called pillbox. The tower of Longonsardo stands on a promontory overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio<\/strong> and offers an awesome panoramic view that extends until Corsica.<\/p>\n
