El edificio data de la segunda mitad del siglo XI y es casi todo de granito, de estilo pisano con influencias lombardas. La celebraci\u00f3n del Santo, que tiene lugar el 15 de mayo, es una fiesta de la ciudad. Bajo la bas\u00edlica de San Simplicio, se encuentra la Necr\u00f3polis: un testimonio de la difusi\u00f3n del cristianismo en la isla.
