PADRU
PADRU
The Tepilora, Rio Posada, and Montalbo Biosphere Reserve is located in the central-eastern area of Sardinia and covers 17 municipalities: Alà dei Sardi (OT), Bitti (NU), Buddusò (OT), Budoni (OT), Galtellì (NU), Irgoli (NU), Loculi (NU), Lodè (NU), Lula (NU), Onanì (NU), Orune (NU), Osidda (NU), Padru (OT), Posada (NU), San Teodoro (OT), Siniscola (NU), and Torpè (NU).
More than half of its 50,000 inhabitants live in the three coastal towns of Siniscola, Budoni, and Posada. For this reason, one of the main challenges faced by the reserve is to strike a new balance between mountainous and coastal areas, which has always characterised these territories. The reserve aims at fostering sustainable development for the local population by boosting traditional activities (i.e., farming and handicraft) and reinforcing the need to preserve biodiversity in nature and crops, the quality of water, habitats, and species as well as cultural, archaeological, and landscape diversity.
Tepilora, Rio Posada, and Montalbo Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO.
