Gallura is home to several species of whales and dolphins, thus offering a chance to sight these huge animals and enjoy an exciting experience.
Several organised tours are available on boats which take tourists on this thrilling adventure. The best places for sightings include the archipelago of La Maddalena – renowned for Caprera’s famous canyon – Golfo Aranci, Santa Teresa Gallura, and Tavolara: the last is well-known for the sighting of an albino sperm whale, nicknamed Moby Dick as a tribute to the namesake novel.
Among other species, you can sight fin whales, sperm whales, Risso’s dolphins, common bottlenose dolphins, dolphins of the genus Stenella, Cuvier’s beaked whales, ocean sunfishes, turtles, and tunas.
