Molara is an island in northeastern Sardinia and, together with Tavolara Island, it makes up the marine protected area of Tavolara-Punta Coda Cavallo.
Its name, of Medieval origins, is probably due to the round and uniform shape of the island, which resembles a grindstone (‘mola’ in Italian). The extremely lush vegetation covering Molara is comprised of Mediterranean scrub, wild olives, lentisks, and rock roses.
