EREMO DI SAN TRANO

PLACEOSANTO

The Eremo di San Trano is a sanctuary on top of a granitic hill which offers a panoramic view of the Strait of Bonifacio.
Here, in the 13th century, the sanctuary was built by two Franciscan friars in the place where, guided by the Virgin Mary, they discovered the bodies of two hermits – Nicola and Trano – who had found shelter in a cave between the 4th and the 5th century.
Surrounded by wind-shaped rocks, this place of worship is a pilgrimage destination and a symbol of faith and spirituality.

A spiritual and scenic destination, the Eremo di San Trano is located in the area of Luogosanto,
the ‘holy town’ featuring more than 22 sanctuaries.
