WINES AND LIQUEURS

Due to its landscape features, Gallura offers the ideal terroir for several vine varieties. Vermentino di Gallura DOCG is exceptionally famous: this appellation includes different wines with extraordinary scents. Moscato di Gallura is a spumante (sparkling wine) produced by way of white winemaking: it, too, stands out for its unmistakable scent. The area of Luras is renowned for the production of Nebbiolo, whereas the area of Monte Acuto is the homeland of Cannonau, Sardinian quintessential wine, which is characterised by its complex structure and ruby colour. The bestknown vine varieties include Pascale, rarely used for single-variety winemaking, and Caricagiola, whose name suggests its high productivity. Bovale sardo, or muristellu, is a Sardinian native vine variety: when used for single-variety vinification, it produces a red wine featuring a characteristic ruby colour with purple hues.
Liqueurs, too, are produced in Gallura using Mediterranean plants: mirto, iconic Sardinian liqueur, is made from myrtle berries and stands out for its violet colour and penetrating scent. It makes for an excellent digestif if consumed cold, but it can also be used as an ingredient for unconventional cocktails. Finally, spirits – locally known as ea èaldenti – are a product of Sardinian long-standing distillation tradition: available in a wide variety, they are all made with local aromatic plants.

Acknowledged as the best Sardinian wines, Gallura’s wines have a diverse bouquet, capable of satisfying all tastes.
